Many of you will know our beloved Osian and will have followed his journey as he faced so many challenges with resilience and grace. Osian’s courage, humour and love for life touched many hearts
For those who may not know Osian's story, here is a short summary. Osian was a healthy and happy 16-year-old when suddenly he suffered several heart attacks caused by a rare strain of COVID in Feb 2023. He received a new heart at Harefield hospital in June 2023, and whilst still battling several complications was able to return to his home in Barry in the October, and celebrated Christmas with his loved ones. Osian was dealing with many different health issues as a result of his prolonged illness, but in early 2024, he appeared to be doing really well and despite a spell at Harefield hospital for several weeks and support from the medical teams, he built up his strength and he returned to embrace life and loved spending time with family and friends being his cheeky fun loving self. Sadly, in June, Osian lost his fight for life and our lives will never be the same.
Osian was a warrior and never complained during his battle for life and it was when reflecting on Osian's journey, we decided that we should really stretch and challenge ourselves whilst raising money for something in his memory.
Our decision to honour Osian by taking on the Gower Peninsula challenge (walking100k in 30 hours) is a meaningful way for Alexis, Andy, his family and friends to celebrate Osian's strength and his zest for life. We are channelling Osian’s strength and inner warrior into walking to raise money for a wonderful cause.
We have chosen Harefield hospital as our nominated charity as it was abundantly clear how much the team at Harefield meant to him – he was deeply grateful for their care. During Osian’s time at Harefield the staff provided unparalleled care and support, their diligence, fight and dedication to Osian and his family was unquestionable and many of the team will be lifelong friends.
We come together to train each Sunday and will continue to do so up until the event in July (often walking 30k each time), for many of us this is a mammoth undertaking, but our team moto inspired by Osian is “never complain”.
We truly hope us coming together to take on this challenge will inspire you to sponsor us and support the wonderful work done by Harefield hospital. Please help us by donating in honour of our wonderful hero boy Osian!
Thank you,
Alexis, Andy, Abi, Vince, Noel, Claire, Lucinda, Clive & Dave x
