End illegal faith schools and religious discrimination in education

Across the UK, thousands of children are being denied their chance. Blocked from their local schools. Excluded because their family doesn’t follow the ‘right’ faith. Taught creationism instead of science. Forced into illegal, unregulated schools.

That’s why we’re fighting for Every Child, Every Chance: an education system that’s fair, inclusive, and based on facts, not faith.

With your support, we can make sure no child misses out on their future.

At Humanists UK, we believe every child deserves every chance: a fair start in life, free from discrimination, exclusion, and indoctrination.

Your support will power our vital work:

Challenging discriminatory admissions that lock families out of local schools

Exposing illegal schools where children are hidden away and denied a proper education

Making sure science, not creationism, is taught in classrooms

Fighting compulsory worship in assemblies so all pupils feel included

Pushing for curriculum reform so children learn about the world's religions and beliefs in an open, balanced way

Why now?

The threat has not gone away. It has just slipped out of the headlines.

Right now in Parliament, powerful religious lobbyists are working hard to lift the 50% cap on faith school admissions. If they succeed, it will mean even more children denied access to their local schools simply because their parents are not religious.

In Northern Ireland, a landmark court case could rule on whether compulsory Christian worship in schools is lawful. A win could transform the rights of children there, but without pressure it risks being ignored.

Parents in communities like Bristol and Southwark are fighting to stop churches from taking over their last remaining non-faith schools. These schools are a lifeline for families who simply want their children to learn free from religious control.

Across England, our work has secured humanist representation on nearly every local education council, giving non-religious families a long-overdue voice. But in key areas such as Lancashire, children are still left without fair representation.

Without us, these battles might go unnoticed, and the fight for equality in education would be lost. We are the only consistent watchdog standing up to powerful interests and keeping children’s rights at the forefront.

Double your impact

A group of generous donors have promised to match the first £7,000 raised in October. That means any donation you make in the next two weeks will be doubled at no extra cost to you.

£10 could help a parent challenge an unfair school admission policy

£50 could fund evidence to Parliament exposing discrimination in education

£250 could support the research and casework needed to close down an illegal school

Be part of it

With your support, we can make sure no child is denied their right to learn. Together, we can make good on a simple promise:

Every Child, Every Chance.
