The Journey Continues. Thank You for Being Part of It

In February 2026 I undertook the Arctic Ice Ultra marathon in Sweden to raise money for Inside Justice, a UK charity that supports people who maintain their innocence and need specialist help to challenge a wrongful conviction.

I began the Ice Ultra exactly as I had trained: steady, disciplined, and well prepared. The preparation paid off and I made strong progress through the first stages, reaching the end of Day 2.

From the start on day 3, however, my pace dropped sharply and I struggled to keep my speed up where it needed to be. Medical checks confirmed I had developed a rapidly worsening chest infection, which was later confirmed as pneumonia. Given the isolation of the course and the severity of the conditions in Swedish Lapland, continuing would have posed a significant health risk. After careful assessment and on medical advice, I made the difficult decision to withdraw.

In endurance events, we often celebrate pushing through adversity. But sometimes, the braver decision is recognising when to stop.

In many ways, the experience mirrors our work at Inside Justice. The pursuit of justice is rarely straightforward. It demands preparation, persistence, and the ability to adapt when circumstances change. Progress is not always linear, but every stage matters, and every step forward counts.

I am immensely grateful for the encouragement and donations for Inside Justice I have received throughout this challenge.

Whilst on this occasion it may have ended earlier than planned, but it certainly won’t stop me taking on demanding events in the future!
