Story
Next February/ March the school I teach at are taking a group of 15 SEN students to Kenya on a life-changing experience organised through a company called African Adventures. The staff and students will spend 4 days volunteering at a school in Kenya doing building work, sports coaching and teaching then 4 days exploring Kenya.
At Clare Mount Specialist Sports College we believe in inclusivity. The staff are dedicated and committed to fundraising so no child shall be excluded due to financial circumstances or disadvantage.
I have decided to walk the equivalent distance of walking up and down Mount Kenya (10.4 km) , the highest mountain in Kenya, 8 times in 8 days because our trip will last 8 days.
Although 10.4km is not a great distance to some, it presents a challenge to me as a result of long covid I suffer from muscle pain and fatigue . I have only walked more than 6km in a day on a handful of occasions since September 2020. For most of this challenge I will be accompanied by Robbie the School's Dog who is actually my Guide Dog Puppy in training.
