Story
Frankie needs your help
Frankie is only one year old and came into our care through an animal welfare officer, who had been called to a suspected hit and run case at the North Coast. Unfortunately, on arrival, they could see that Frankie had been suffering from his injuries for a lot longer.
Thankfully our volunteers in North Antrim and Glens were able to take Frankie into care and get him the immediate veterinary care he deserved. Frankie had a shattered leg, from the suspected car accident, as well as deep lacerations, and old, uncared for wounds. Frankie had also been died pink, which could suggest abuse such as dog baiting.
Frankie had to have a hind leg amputated, and where his old wounds had not healed, the vets were able to remove the necrotic flesh, and these were then stitched as much as possible. A section had to have a drain for a short time, and he then healed the parts that could not be stitched closed on his own.
Nothing could affect Frankie's temperament! He is nicknamed Frankenweenie by the vet nurses when he's being goofy. Throughout it all, Frankie has been a true and utter sweetheart. He's a very affectionate cat, and vocal in how happy he is! He loves company and is a very playful lap cat.
When Frankie first came to our volunteers, he would not stop eating, due to his emaciated state, and his previous struggles for food and basic care. Now, Frankie has realised he is safe and will always have access to food.
It even became clear that despite whatever horrible past he had behind him, he doesn’t hold it against people or animals, he has been happy to be around other animals in the vets and is warm and affectionate to all our volunteers.
Frankie has recovered from surgery, and after being in the care of the Cats Protection Northern Ireland for 40 days, is ready to find his new home.
Over his time with us, Frankie's care has cost over £500. We receive no government funding and rely entirely on the generosity of people like you. £500 will cover the cost of Frankie's extra care and surgery, alongside vaccinations, neutering, microchipping and flea and worm treatments. Any donations received above and beyond this amount will be used to care for other cats across Northern Ireland who have ended up in our care through no fault of their own.
If you're unable to donate, please consider sharing Frankie's story with your friends, family, and on social media. Together, we can make a big difference to their lives.
