Our Story: A Tribute to Rob

The Northdoor team is embarking on a meaningful journey this July, participating in the Standard Chartered Great City Race. Our run carries a special purpose – to honour the memory of our colleague and friend - Rob Batters. Rob’s sudden passing earlier this year left a void in our hearts, but his spirit of resilience and generosity continues to inspire us.

Rob’s Journey: From Challenge to Triumph

Rob’s life was a testament to overcoming adversity. As a child, he was diagnosed with Perthes Disease, a painful condition that left one leg shorter than the other. This undiagnosed childhood condition led to arthritic hip problems in adulthood, seemingly putting an end to his sporting aspirations.

But Rob’s story didn’t end there. In 2008, a hip replacement surgery changed everything. Suddenly, Rob could run again! With his loyal companion Bailey by his side, Rob began training. His determination culminated in an incredible achievement – completing the London Marathon in 2016 and again in 2020 and 2023.

Our Cause: Steps Worldwide

We’re running to raise funds for Steps Worldwide, a charity close to Rob’s heart. This organisation works tirelessly to support those affected by childhood lower limb conditions – a cause Rob championed through his own fundraising efforts.

Why Steps Worldwide Matters:

• They provide crucial support for children and families dealing with lower limb conditions

• The charity funds research to improve treatments and outcomes

• Steps Worldwide offers a community of understanding and hope

Rob’s Vision: Inspiring Possibilities

Rob’s marathons weren’t just personal triumphs; they were beacons of hope. He ran to raise money with a beautiful vision: somewhere, a child who never thought it possible would one day run their own marathon. Today, we carry that torch forward.

Rob showed us that with determination and support, we can overcome incredible challenges. Your donation today doesn’t just honour his memory – it continues his work, offering hope and possibility to children facing similar struggles.

Thank you for your support.
