Northern Challenge Ride

John Binns is raising money for Diabetes UK
In memory of Ed Binns

Northern Challenge Ride · 31 July 2026

Diabetes UK is the charity leading the fight against the UK's devastating and fastest growing health crisis, working to create a world where diabetes can do no harm. It’s a fight that involves all of us – sharing knowledge and taking diabetes on together. Join us.

Story

Unfortunately my brother Ed (Edward) Binns passed away suddenly in April 2026 at the age of 54. I decided that I wanted something productive to come out of this terrible situation. I will therefore be undertaking a multiday bike ride of approximately 180 km (112 miles) per day for three consecutive days. Starting from my home in County Durham to places that meant something to Ed and his family. This will be undertaken on the 31 July to 2 August. This will include cycling to his son's places of study in Hull and Leyland. Then our childhood home farm, my Mum's house and the home that he shared with his wife and two sons (all in Lancashire) and then back to County Durham.

Ed was a diabetes sufferer so any money raised will go to the worthwhile cause Diabetes UK.
