Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

Hi all, I have planned the biggest challenge of my life. My aim is to be the first person from Liverpool to summit the highest mountain in each European country. It’s a massive challenge that’ll take me some time to complete all 44 mountains, but it’s for a cause close to my heart.

The Reason Why?

I am raising awareness for Alder Hey Children’s Hospital mental health unit.

Alder Hey Child and Adolescent Mental Health services offers specialist services to support children and young people up to the age of 18 who are experiencing mental health difficulties. They also provide support to families and carers.

Some of the issues they can help with are:

Anxiety - Depression - PTSD - Self-Harm - Attachment difficulties - Conduct/Behaviour Problems - Eating disorder - Obsessions and compulsions Psychosis -Emotional and behavioural difficulties in children with learning disabilities & More complex psychological difficulties.

My Story

Not many people know my story as I’ve held it in for a long time. Growing up around drug and alcohol addiction, I’ve witnessed lives being destroyed and family members falling apart. This led to my siblings and I ending up in the care system. The things I witnessed, no child ever should. Being the oldest of 5, I believed it was my place to protect everyone and have the added responsibility, by doing this it had a massive impact on my mental health. In the 90’s there wasn’t support for children experiencing mental health issues.

I was 21 when my Mum passed away from addiction, it left me with both unanswered questions and mixed emotions which I didn’t know how to handle. This caused my depression to get worse over the years where I had suicidal thoughts and couldn’t see a future in life. At this point I had a mental breakdown and understood I needed to seek professional help.

After numerous appointments with medical professionals, I decided to follow some advice and try going outdoors which led me to hiking. It became clear that being in an outdoor environment helped me reconnect with my inner self and channel my emotions. It opened a new mindset and changed my life.

I started meeting lots of like-minded people while hiking who had went through similar issues, this created an added security blanket and a feeling of belonging. People don’t understand the true benefits of being in the great outdoors. As a community, we need to come together and promote the benefits a lot more, especially for the younger generations.

I have seen first-hand that there is now more help for children, but with more funding and support this help can be easier accessed and children will get the help they need, sooner rather than later.

I will be providing family friendly walks, to help inner city children take a step back from electronics and social media and into the great outdoors.

Thank you for taking the time to read this message, I look forward to sharing my journey with you all. I will post my progress regularly on social media with photos, videos, and live updates.

I am aiming to raise £500 for every international summit I reach 🏔️….
