Story
On 5 September 2026, A team from North Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service will be taking part in the 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb in Atlanta, climbing the equivalent of 110 floors in remembrance of the 343 FDNY firefighters who made the ultimate sacrifice during the attacks on the World Trade Centre on 11 September 2001.
This challenge is more than a physical test—it is an opportunity to honour courage, sacrifice and the enduring bond shared by firefighters across the world.
As part of a team bringing together 343 firefighters from across the UK, each representing a different Fire and Rescue Service, we will stand shoulder to shoulder with our international firefighting family to ensure the legacy of those heroes is never forgotten.
Through this event, we aim to raise vital funds for three incredible causes:
The Terry Farrell Firefighters Fund – supporting firefighters and their families in the U.S.
The Fire Fighters Charity – providing life-changing support to UK firefighters and their loved ones.
Blue Light Card Foundation – championing the physical, mental, and emotional well-being of the entire Blue Light Community, including health, emergency, social care, and armed forces personnel, recognising the vital role they play in society every day.
Every donation will help support charities that provide vital assistance to firefighters, emergency service personnel, and their families in both the UK and the United States. Your support, no matter how big or small, will help make a real difference while paying tribute to those who gave everything in service to others. Thank you for helping me remember the fallen and support those who continue to serve.
