#Milesformumsandbabies
Following the success of #milesformumsandbabies last year we are pleased to announce we will be raising money for Action for Post Partum Psychosis (APP) again this May. (1st May-31st May)
The Margaret Oates Mother and Baby Unit staff, patients and family will be collectively walking, running, riding, swimming (and much more) 365 miles representing the physical journey between our MBU and Belfast where plans have been announced to open the first MBU in Northern Ireland, something in which APP have been tirelessly campaigning for.
What is Postpartum Psychosis?
Postpartum psychosis is a medical emergency, a severe but treatable form of mental illness that begins suddenly in the days and weeks after having a baby. For more information please follow the following link:

About The Margaret Oates Mother and Baby Unit:
Based at Hopewood, our unit is a 8-bed specialist inpatient perinatal unit for mothers from 32 weeks of pregnancy with a serious mental illness, and their babies up to one year after birth. We are a regional unit for the East Midlands, however, as a national resources we can accept admissions from other areas of England if needed.
The philosophy of care on the unit is to treat the mother's mental illness as effectively and quickly as possible, whilst promomoting and maintaining her relationship with her baby. We use the best approach to meet each women's needs and wishes to help them with a speedy recovery.
