Nene Park Academy Sponsored Walk · 26 September 2025

Sue Ryder is here to make sure everyone approaching the end of their life or living with grief can get the support they need. There is no one size fits all when it comes to how we cope and the help we need, but with our support, no one has to face dying or grief alone. We are there when it matters.

Story

Nene Park Academy is committed to providing our students with a wider school ‘Experience’ through our ‘PLEDGES’ programme.  One of our pledges (Giving) is geared towards supporting charities, particularly those in our local community.

Over the past few years, we’ve raised over £20,000 for the Sue Ryder Thorpe Hall Hospice through our sponsored walk. Raising money for Thorpe Hall Hospice is particularly important to our Trust since Mr Martin Bacon, former Principal of Swavesey Village College and CEO of the Trust at its infancy; and Miss Cat Black, former English teacher at Orton Longueville School sadly lost their battles with aggressive cancers. It was, however, the palliative care and emotional support provided by Thorpe Hall Hospice which eased the pain and suffering at such a difficult time for both colleagues and their families.

We would like to raise even more money for Thorpe Hall Hospice, and we therefore plan for all our students, together with all staff, to complete our 7th annual 14 km sponsored walk leaving from school, walking around Ferry Meadows (Nene Park) and the rowing lake, returning to school. This year’s walk will take place on Friday 27th September 2024.
