My younger brother James died suddenly in February 2024 after suffering a catastrophic Type-A Aortic Dissection and despite the courageous efforts of NHS staff. It was a profound shock to the family especially his wife Jane and two children, Connor and Kayleigh.
James loved the outdoors, we both loved walking and had hoped that we would walk the Thames Path sometime. Alas I will not have that opportunity but a walk in his memory raising money for the Aortic Dissection Charitable Trust will provide a positive legacy.
2000 people per year lose their lives from aortic dissection in the UK. The Aortic Dissection Charitable Trust is a UK charity that unites patients, families and the medical community in a shared goal of improving diagnosis, increasing survival and reducing disability due to aortic dissection.
I will be walking 100 miles along the River Thames from Kingston-upon-Thames to Oxford in a little over 4 days from Wednesday 23rd to Sunday 27th April. I will be walking with friends and family. I am somewhat daunted by this challenge but I hope the incentive of raising money for this charity and the stunning scenery will keep me going.
