Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

We as a family are hoping to raise funds for my brother Chris, aged 55, who died in December 2024 from Leukemia, as his first anniversary approaches.

Also known as a Son to Hugh & Kathleen, Dad to Ellen-Rose, Anna & John & partner to Anne.

December 2024 Chris had a bit of a flu, a cough, & a rash. He had went to his own GP but thought it was a viral infection.

On Sunday 8th December he went to A&E in the RVH Belfast as felt very unwell and within a few hours of having bloods done he was diagnosed with Leukemia and was admitted immediately to the City Hospital.

It was quite a shock as you can imagine but Chris and us all were trying as best we could to take a positive outlook, that he would have a battle ahead of him but would receive treatment and come out the other end.

He went through a lot of tests those first few days but was in good form and doing ok. By Thursday that week he started to become quite unwell, with labored breathing, fever & extreme pain. He was moved to the High dependency Unit but by Friday night he was moved to the ICU due to his breathing & the excruciating pain.

Saturday morning the 14th December he was serious but stable but by that night he had greatly deteriorated and by 11 pm that night they had to put him on a ventilator to protect his breathing and try to stabilise him.

Chris continued to greatly deteriorate through the night, with his organs starting to shut down due the nature of the Leukemia.

On Sunday the 15th December, 1 week from his diagnosis, around 3 pm Chris body could no longer keep him alive and he passed away.

As you can imagine this was & still is an awful shock to us all that knew him. Chris was my only sibling & a great full of life fella, a great Gaelic player in his day and continued this on with coaching. He loved to travel & was a real people person. But his proudest legacy are his children and it is heart breaking that he is not here to see them live their lives to the fullest.

So this wee fundraiser is to hopefully raise a few pounds to send to Leukemia & Lymphoma NI, which unique in its focus on funding research into the causes and potential cures for all blood cancers, including leukemia, lymphoma, and myeloma, specifically within Northern Ireland.

So please give what you can and we will gratefully donate it in Chris's name & memory.
