Story
Why am I raising money? Good question.
Well I was diagnosed with Stage 4 Cancer in June 2023 whilst busy on my mission to get to Brighton Marathon 2024 on my 60th birthday weekend in April to run my 200th Marathon.
At the date of diagnosis I was on marathon 195 so typically I put on my trainers and shoehorned in a couple before my 6 weeks of daily Radiotherapy and Chemo commenced in August 2023.
It was a massive shock to get the diagnosis but my almost immediate reaction was..."How inconvenient!!"...followed by..."Where will I park??".
It is well publicized that parking at hospitals can be fraught with angst and big spending.
Cancer is such a HUGE thing to get your brain around that you just set it to one side and focus on daft things such as the above.
I was then so very relieved to find out that there is free parking for all Cancer Patients and that is funded by the wonderful Sussex Cancer Fund.
Dedicated Free Parking. Fantastic. What's not to like ??
They also provide the gorgeous big comfy chairs you sit in whilst having Chemo plus the waiting areas are kitted out with welcoming seats, sofas, water dispensers, coffee machines.....all there to give you a calmer experience and it really is the little things that count. Cancer is too big to worry about.
I will be continuing treatment from April 2024 by way of immunotherapy to try and make sure the Cancer doesn't spread any further and to just keep it under control.
So that's it. It was an easy decision as to who I would raise money for as I mooch around Brighton on 7th April 2024 with a Cow Hat on my head and whilst it is a Sussex based charity, cancer is sadly very common and it would be amazing for everyone to come together, where ever you are, to try and help anyone to just get through it.
Thank you so much.
