Lochaber Mountain Rescue team is Scotland's busiest team, often carrying out more than 150 rescues a year. Run entirely by volunteers we rely on your generous donations to allow us to help those in need.

Story

Newcastle University Fellwalking Society (NUFWS) are a group of people who love getting out and about in the hills.

Unfortunately, this comes with certain risks... as we found out on Saturday 3rd May.

Our Social Media Secretary Jacob was scrambling on Crinkle Crags (in Langdale, The Lake District) when he fell and landed badly on his ankle. It quickly became apparent that he wasn't going anywhere under his own steam! With this in mind, it was time to call Mountain Rescue.

The group was in a very awkward spot, but Mountain Rescue responded very quickly, being absolute heroes! It was ultimately decided that a helicopter evacuation was necessary, and this was also arranged very quickly.

Having had the opportunity to see an MRT incident close up, with them operating in very difficult circumstances, we think it's only proper that we raise them a good old chunk of money.

As well as donating to Langdale and Ambleside Mountain Rescue, we will be donating 50% of the money raised to to Lochaber MRT. This is in memory of Joseph Thomas, a Newcastle University student who tragically lost his life on Ben Nevis back in March.

So how are we going to raise this money?! By doing a NUFWS 24 hour relay!! (Yes, in cold and dark Newcastle, and yes, that means people will be running at 2AM!). We will be running from Noon on Friday 9th May-Noon Saturday 10th May, with as many people as possible running a leg for us.

All donations are massively appreciated- after all, as we all learned this weekend, you never know when you might need an MRT!
