My home state of Kansas has just passed one of the most ghoulish anti-trans laws in the country, Senate Bill 244, which defines gender as sex at birth and imposes criminal penalties on individuals who use any public bathroom which does not match their sex at birth.

They call it a "bathroom bill", but it's actually much more than that–Bill 244 invalidates the IDs, Drivers Licenses, and even Birth Certificates of trans and nonbinary individuals effective immediately, preventing them from driving vehicles, applying for jobs or bank accounts, or even attempting to move out of state, unless they go through the painful and humiliating, not to mention expensive, process of re-applying for these as their sex at birth.

Trans, nonbinary, and genderqueer people from out of state are being advised to avoid Kansas indefinitely, but what about those still inside?

This is an issue near and dear to my heart–Being from the Greater Kansas City Area and coming up in the alternative and queer scene, I know how many wonderful people in the state are suffering under unjust laws enforced by bigoted politicians.

That's why I'm raising money for the Trans Continental Pipeline, a Colorado-based charity focused on helping LGBT individuals directly affected by these laws move away from unsafe locations.
