Story
Oakham School is putting on a 10-hour Pianothon to raise money for Brain Tumour Research on Monday 27th April. It has been inspired by the story of Anne Bolt's daughter, Ella. Anne is Head of Piano at Oakham School and her daughter Ella (who was a pupil at the school from 2018-2020) was diagnosed with a brain tumour in July 2024. Since then, Ella has lived her life to the full, moving to London, starting a new job, meeting new friends, and generally doing everything a 24-year-old should be doing. However, there are no cures for her brain cancer. Treatment options haven't changed for decades and more research into this underfunded cancer is desperately needed. Despite being the biggest cancer killer of the under 40s, only 1% of the national spend on cancer research is allocated to this devastating disease.
Oakham School is bringing together pupils and staff alike to play the piano non-stop for 10 hours throughout the school day in various venues. Everyone has been signing up for 5 minute slots, including some people you would never normally see on a piano stool (apparently the Head of Sports Partnerships might even have a go!).
Help us raise money to improve the lives of many who suffer with brain cancer by sponsoring us below. Thank you.
One in three people in the UK knows someone affected by a brain tumour. This disease is indiscriminate; it can affect anyone at any age. Brain tumours kill more children and adults under the age of 40 than any other cancer yet just 1% of the national spend on cancer research has been allocated to this devastating disease since records began in 2002. Brain Tumour Research is determined to change this. It is the only national charity focused on finding a cure for all types of brain tumours. Help fund the fight. Together we will find a cure.
