THE ROYAL OAK OAKERS is raising money for Midland Freewheelers

The Oakely tour relay day · 19 July 2025

Midland Freewheelers is a group of bikers based in the West Midlands. A member of the National Association of Blood Bikes (NABB) we offer a 24/7 service transporting blood, breast milk, drugs and other urgent medical supplies for our local NHS Trusts, completely free of charge.

THE ROYAL OAK CHARITY RELAY

“From Boots to Bikes – All Roads Lead Back to The Oak”

Start & Finish: The Royal Oak, Chapel Ash, Wolverhampton

A community-powered, multi-leg challenge celebrating strength, spirit, and service – combining motorcycles, cycling, walking, and running in support of Midland Freewheelers Blood Bikes. Each leg starts and finishes at The Oak or its symbolic heart – West Park Bandstand.

1. Motorbike Ride – “100 Miles for the Mission”

The Grand Opening

A thunderous start as a fleet of motorbikes led by the Midland Freewheelers takes on a 100-mile loop through Staffordshire and Shropshire, starting and finishing at The Oak.

Distance: 100 miles

Start/Finish: The Royal Oak

Riders: Blood Bikers & supporters

Purpose: Saluting the lifesaving volunteers who inspire this relay

2. Cycling Leg – “The Oak to Valley Loop”

A stunning countryside ride through picturesque villages, green lanes, and punchy inclines.

Start/Finish: The Royal Oak

Route Highlights:

Compton → Wombourne → Bratch

Trysull → Seisdon → Pattingham

Bobington → Halfpenny Green

Return via New Road incline & Draining Lane

Distance: ~35 km

Highlights: Canals, valleys, quiet roads, and top segment times

3. Walking Leg – “The Railway & Canal Walk to the Bandstand”

A thoughtful and scenic walk tracing Wolverhampton’s heritage.

Start: The Royal Oak

Finish: West Park Bandstand

Old Railway Walk

Staffordshire & Worcestershire Canal

Aldersley Bridge

Highlights: Historic walking paths, locks, the Wolves stadium

4. Running Leg – “Bandstand to Broad Lane Loop”

A strong finish through suburban streets, winding back into the heart of the city.

Start: West Park Bandstand

Finish: Compton Road / Merridale Junction

Distance: ~4 km

Highlights: Urban buzz, quiet turns, and a proud final leg
