Story
Well, against all sensible expectations, I did it.
Yesterday I completed the full 13.1 miles — entirely under my own steam!
A huge thank you to everyone who has sponsored me so far. Your generosity was genuinely motivating, particularly during the later miles when my knees, calves and various other body parts began formally questioning the wisdom of the entire enterprise.
I am raising money for Anthony Nolan, a charity I have supported for almost 30 years. Anthony Nolan helps people with blood cancer and blood disorders find matching stem-cell donors for lifesaving transplants. For some patients, a stem-cell transplant may be their best or only chance of survival.
The charity recruits and registers potential stem-cell donors and then works to make that vital connection when a patient needs a match. Registering as a potential donor is an extraordinary thing to do — somewhere, you may be the perfect match for a complete stranger and potentially help save their life.
My target is £7,500 and, although the running is now thankfully over, the fundraising is not.
If you haven’t yet donated and would like to, please give whatever you can afford. Every contribution, large or small, is hugely appreciated and will help Anthony Nolan continue finding lifesaving matches for people who desperately need them.
The legs have done their bit. Now I’d love to get the fundraising over the finish line too.
Thank you so much to everyone who has supported me.
