#RunningForACure
Living with muscular dystrophy has taught me that every step matters. Every single one.
When people ask me why I’ve chosen to tackle the London Marathon, the answer is simple: because I refuse to let muscular dystrophy define what I can’t do. Instead, I want to show what’s possible when you have the right support, the right training partner, and a cause worth fighting for.
This journey started when my incredible friend Esme helped train me to climb to Everest Base Camp. Recently we ran the Lincoln 10K together and the running started there. She believed in me when my muscles didn’t always cooperate, when the training felt impossible, and when I wondered if I was crazy to even try. Now, she’s by my side again as we prepare to take on the 26.2 miles through London’s streets together.
Every day, I live with the reality of muscular dystrophy. I know firsthand how this condition affects not just the person diagnosed, but entire families. I’ve experienced the uncertainty, the gradual changes, and the constant hope that tomorrow’s research might bring breakthrough treatments.
That’s why every pound you donate to MDUK matters so much. This isn’t just about me crossing a finish line, though I promise you, that moment will be incredible. This is about funding the research that could change everything. The research that could lead to treatments, therapies, and ultimately, a cure.
When my legs are screaming at mile 20, when every fiber in my body wants to stop, I’ll think about everyone affected by muscular dystrophy who can’t run, can’t walk, or can’t move the way they want to. I’ll think about the children being diagnosed today who deserve better treatment options. I’ll think about the researchers who are so close to breakthroughs that could change millions of lives.
And I’ll keep running.
This marathon isn’t just about proving something to myself anymore – it’s about proving that together, we can outrun muscular dystrophy. We can fund the research that leads to treatments. We can make a difference that lasts far beyond one day in London.
Will you help us cross that finish line and bring hope to everyone affected by muscular dystrophy?
Every donation, no matter the size, gets us one step closer to a cure.
Esme’s amazing gym, @movement.athletesclub, is more than just a place to train. It’s a community where everyone is welcomed, supported, and encouraged to grow. She has created a space where people come together to chase their goals, lift each other up, and become the best versions of themselves. To be a part of this journey with her is truly an honour.
Thank you for believing in this fight with us.
