Hiking the Cotswold Way and back

We carry out our work with love. We are optimistic and support residents in leading happy and fulfilled lives. We work and live as one team, one family, one community. We show admiration and respect for our residents and never forget what they have done. We are not afraid to do what’s right.

Story

Over the past few months I have been taking on the challenge of hiking the Cotswold Way and back (a 204 mile hike) in my free time. I had no idea just how hard this challenge would be until I got started. With the loss of my grandmother, Doreen Shepherd (at the age of 96), earlier this April I realised that I wanted to complete this challenge and use it as an opportunity to raise money for an amazing cause.

Doreen spent the final months of her life at Royal Star & Garter. The care she received was nothing short of amazing. They filled her days with entertainment, trips out, and true happiness.

She was supported by this charity because of my Grandad, who served in the army. Because of his service, she was able to live out her final days with the dignity and joy she deserved.

I’m walking these 204 miles to raise money for Royal Star & Garter so that other veterans and their spouses can receive that same incredible care and amazing opportunity that Doreen did.
