Story

Hi there, please have a read of the below & if you feel compelled to donate then we will be very grateful.

Mum passed away on the 9th of May last year, she suffered from stage 3 ovarian cancer and fought incredibly for 7 years. In early April she was moved into Princess Alice Hospice in Esher as we were no longer able to care for her at home. The care she received at the hospice over those 5 weeks was nothing short of incredible and I want to raise some money to say thank you.

An extract from my tribute at her funeral,

"I would like to thank all the wonderful staff and volunteers at Princess Alice Hospice in Esher. Quite an incredible place, Mum was initially frightened about the prospect but as soon as she arrived there, she immediately knew, and we knew, that she was in the right place and felt comfortable. They looked after her in a way that I didn’t think was possible, it also gave us the chance to just be her children for that precious last month, and if we are being honest she made it abundantly clear that the room service at Princess Alice far exceeded what we could offer her at home! The word hospice is scary in terms of what it means for someone, but this place is the opposite. I will never be able to thank them enough for making this distressing time a little calmer & a little easier."

Princess Alice is 100% funded by donations and each year £10m is required to operate this brilliant facility. As a way of saying thank you I wanted to raise some money to say thank you and allow others to have the same positive experience and excellent care, so the challenge of the London Marathon seemed appropriate. I ran the marathon in 2006 in a time of 4hrs42mins so it feels like the right challenge is to better that time that I achieved in 2006, a challenge in what is now my 40th year. Carrying an extra 18 years on the clock this will be no walk in the park but with the motivation of running for Mum and the Hospice, I'm sure that will get me over the line!
