Story

Living in Cumbria we’ve always had the upmost respect for air ambulance, but now we are eternally grateful and in awe of them for saving our baby girl, Winnie. On Saturday 27th September our 11 month old daughter started having seizures, these seizures wouldn’t stop no matter what the ground ambulance crew did. So they made the decision to call in the air ambulance. The crew on the air ambulance ended up having to intubate Winnie and put her into an induced coma in order to stop the seizures and then she was taken via the air ambulance to James Cook Hospital. Winnie was 45 minutes from the nearest hospital at the time and without the air ambulance we don’t know what would have happened to our baby girl.

We are so lucky to have The Great North Air Ambulance available to us, without them our lives would be very different right now. Winnie has recovered amazingly, and it’s all thanks to the amazing crew on the air ambulance. We can’t thank them enough, but we will be doing everything we can now to help fundraise for this incredible service, and hope you can help, any donation is hugely appreciated.

The Great North Air Ambulance Service (GNAAS) rescues hundreds of severely injured or ill patients every year throughout the North East, North Yorkshire and Cumbria. Their doctor-led critical care teams deliver life-saving treatments at the scene of the incident whether that is on a fell top, a roadside or in a city centre. The charity responded to 2,083 call outs in 2024 alone, via their helicopter and emergency response vehicles, where they performed treatments and procedures which can mean the difference between life or death.
