Story
In April 2025 I will be running the London Marathon in support of Sarcoma UK, a charity dedicated to supporting those affected by sarcoma, a rare and aggressive cancer that often goes unnoticed before its too late.
This charity is very close to my heart with one of my close family members being diagnosed with this nasty disease. With only 1 of 2 people having her form of Sarcoma in the UK, she is currently on a long journey of being treated.
Sarcoma is a cancer of the bone and soft tissues, including muscles, tendons, blood vessels, and fat. It accounts for only 1% of all cancer diagnoses in the UK, making it a lesser-known disease. This can lead to delays in diagnosis, which drastically impacts treatment outcomes. Each year, around 5,300 people in the UK are diagnosed with sarcoma, and tragically, survival rates have remained stubbornly low compared to other types of cancer.
What makes sarcoma so challenging is its diversity. There are over 100 subtypes of sarcoma, and it can occur anywhere in the body, often with few symptoms until the disease is advanced. This makes early detection critical—but also incredibly difficult. Many people haven’t even heard of sarcoma until it affects them or someone they love.
Sarcoma UK is working hard to change this by funding life-changing research, improving awareness, and providing practical and emotional support to patients and families. Their mission is to transform the care and outcomes for everyone affected by sarcoma, and I’m proud to run in support of such vital work.
Running 26.2 miles will be a tough challenge for me, but it’s nothing compared to the battles faced by those living with sarcoma. With your support, we can fund research to improve treatments, ensure more people are diagnosed early, and give hope to those who need it most.
Every single donation, no matter how big or small, brings us one step closer to making a difference. Thank you so much for your generosity and for helping me make these miles count. Together, we can help Sarcoma UK continue their incredible work.
