Story
As many of you know, I lost one of my closest friends at the end of last year. Since then, my friends and I have been left with a massive hole in our hearts that will never truly be filled. Not a day goes by that we don't think about him.
Seb was the kind of person who made everyone’s lives feel brighter. He was kind, charismatic, funny, caring, and someone who always brought out the best in people around him. He gave so much happiness to so many people, which makes it even more heartbreaking to know that he was silently struggling with something none of us knew he was facing.
Many of you know that after a serious accident in 2020, I can no longer run. So instead, this September I will be taking on a 30km walk in Seb’s memory as part of a challenge run by CALM.
I'm also incredibly grateful that my four closest girlfriends, Tilly Upson, Sophie Jones, Tabi Wise and Laura Sibley, will be joining me for the walk. Some of them had the chance to meet Seb briefly, and all of them have heard so many stories and funny memories from our friendship, so they know just how much he meant to me. They are the most amazing friends and having their support and walking together in his memory means everything to me.
We are doing this to support anyone who is going through, has gone through, or one day goes through what Seb went through, and to support the friends and families affected by suicide. Suicide is the leading cause of death in people under 35 in the UK, with around 5 young people taking their lives everyday - a heartbreaking reminder of how important it is to raise awareness and support charities like CALM.
CALM means so much to me, my friends and Seb's family. CALM is a suicide prevention charity that provides life saving support to people who are struggling and encourages people to talk more openly about mental health. We can’t change what has happened and we would give anything to have Seb back, but if sharing his story and raising money encourages just one person to open up or reach out, then it will have made a meaningful difference in Seb’s memory.
If you are able to support us, we would be very grateful for any donation, no matter how big or small. Every donation will go directly to CALM, a charity chosen by Seb’s parents.
And to end on a slightly lighter note, Seb loved a pub night as much as anyone, so I'm sure he'd find it funny that after many late evenings in the pub with the girls and a serious lack of exercise, we'll need to get ourselves moving very soon. Any donations or words of encouragement will mean the world.
Thank you so much,
Liv, Tilly, Soph, Tabi and Laura xxx
