Jingle Bell Drop 2024 · 14 December 2024 ·

We're getting into the festive spirit this December by taking part in Jingle Bell Drop – a Christmas Abseil challenge to raise life-saving funds for our heart unit, patients and families!

Story

Our beautiful daughter, Matilda is under the care of Leeds Congenital Cardiac Unit following an extremely scary episode of a heart defect called SVT.

At only 8 days old we were in a Resuscitation room. Somewhere I've only ever seen on tele and it's even more heart shattering in real life.

Matilda's heart rate was over double than it should have been and she had been fighting to keep going, it was like she was running a marathon in her tiny 9lb body.

Matilda under went a number of medical techniques to help reset her heart and thankfully her heart was stopped and brought back at a normal rate. (Thank you A&E Doctor Josh - our hero!)  Matilda’s heart rate is now controlled by daily medicines and monthly clinics under the amazing Dr Bissell for ECG and scans!

During our hospital stay, Matilda was given a musical mobile for above her hospital crib which the played the lullaby ' You are my sunshine, my only sunshine, please don't take my sunshine away ' and sensory lights all around the room. This gesture from the children’s heart ward meant more than anything in that moment of time when it felt like our world had stopped still. I held her in my arms begging the universe for ‘my sunshine’ not to be taken away.

I'm asking for a small donation from you to ensure the Children's Heart Surgery Fund is able to buy a new fish tank for their ward (Honestly when reading all the wishes, this is the one that resonated with me the most - I really want them to get the fish tank!) of course and the life saving equipment and the absolute honorary medical professionals too.

'Matilda' means warrior… If Matilda can be a warrior every day of her life along with all the other children with a heart defect, I can be brave to take a backwards step down a building.

Thank you so much.

Matilda and Me xx
