Story
In 2016, when I was 15, my mum was diagnosed with breast cancer at just 53. Watching her go through surgery, treatment, and recovery was overwhelming, but she faced it with incredible strength and determination.
What made the biggest difference was the support from Breast Cancer Now. Their sessions gave her more than just practical tools like mindfulness, breathing exercises, and lifestyle advice. They gave her a community of women who understood what she was going through. That sense of connection, of not being alone, helped her rebuild her confidence and resilience, and it is something she still carries with her today.
Since then, my mum has faced further health challenges, including a hysterectomy and recent surgery related to her prosthetic breast. Each hurdle has been a reminder of how tough life after cancer can be. But her resilience, and the strength she found in that community, continue to inspire me.
That is why I am taking on two marathons this year. The Richmond Marathon on 14 September will kickstart my fundraising, and the TCS London Marathon will continue the journey. Running for Breast Cancer Now is immensely important to me, and I am so excited to give back to such an impactful charity.
