Story
This June, I will be running the Midnight Sun Marathon in Tromsø, Norway, raising money for Guy’s Cancer Charity in memory of Chris Ramsey.
Chris died of colorectal cancer on 1 October 2025 after a four-year battle with the disease.
Despite three surgeries, endless rounds of chemotherapy, radiotherapy and ablative therapy, Chris remained the positive, life-loving, friend and family man that he always had been.
Sharing a life with his wife Bianca and dog Cosmo, Chris loved to travel, was a self-proclaimed coffee snob, adored his family and friends and gave everything to the sport he loved; football.

After growing up in Perth, Western Australia, Chris moved to the UK in 2009, briefly settling in Newcastle, where his father was from and his grandad played for Newcastle FC.
He moved to London where his coaching journey began at Chelsea Foundation. He then transitioned into the club’s goalkeeping development centre, before moving to Fulham Academy.
Brentford eventually came calling, Chris taking up the U18 goalkeeping role before eventually becoming head of academy goalkeeping.
Chris had a massive impact on me as a fellow Aussie making the daunting move to the other side of the globe. He welcomed me with open arms when I started working at Brentford, our friendship beginning with our shared love for coffee and extending into valuable advice on how to survive as an expat so far away from home.
In a nice coincidence, Chris ran this same marathon in his early 20s and this year’s event is the same week as his birthday.

Chris received a lot of treatment at Guy’s Cancer Centre, so I’m looking to raise much needed funds which will help with supporting personalised cancer care, fuelling innovation and advances in cancer care, enhancing support for the Guy’s cancer team and funding pioneering new approaches.
My aim is to raise £1000, with Brentford FC to match all donations up to that figure.
