I will be running a marathon in Athens (Greece) to raise money for HFT, a charity that supports adults with learning disabilities to have better quality of lives and have similar opportunities as those more fortunate than them.

𝑨𝒃𝒐𝒖𝒕 𝑯𝑭𝑻 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝑾𝒉𝒂𝒕 𝒚𝒐𝒖𝒓 𝒅𝒐𝒏𝒂𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏 𝒄𝒐𝒖𝒍𝒅 𝒅𝒐:

Hft helps adults with learning disabilities access meaningful opportunities and to lead lives similar to us that we so easily take for granted. They help both the individuals impacted as well as their families by providing hugely beneficial resources and services they would otherwise go without.

𝐃𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐲 𝐫𝐞𝐜𝐞𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐟𝐫𝐨𝐦 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐜𝐚𝐧 𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐬𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐦 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐥𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐬 𝐨𝐟 𝐦𝐨𝐫𝐞 𝐩𝐞𝐨𝐩𝐥𝐞 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐯𝐢𝐝𝐞 𝐬𝐮𝐩𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐨𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐰𝐢𝐬𝐞 𝐰𝐨𝐮𝐥𝐝 𝐛𝐞 𝐥𝐨𝐬𝐭.

Examples of services they provide include help with daily living such as learning how to cook and effectively manage finances as well as aiding personal lives and development such as providing services for finding relationships.

This empowers these individuals to escape societal constraints and limitations, to live fulfilling lives and not let their conditions define or restrain them.

𝑨𝒃𝒐𝒖𝒕 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝑴𝒂𝒓𝒂𝒕𝒉𝒐𝒏:

This is one of the most iconic and most difficult marathons in the world. The Athens marathon is the birthplace of the original marathon in 490 BCE and was the home of the first Olympic marathon in 1896.

𝑾𝒉𝒚 𝒕𝒉𝒊𝒔 𝒎𝒂𝒓𝒂𝒕𝒉𝒐𝒏?

This marathon has a grueling uphill climb for over 20km (13 miles) and a total elevation of 820ft (which is equivalent to the height between the ground and the top floor of the Eiffel Tower) through the humid city of Athens. It is often referred to as the most difficult major marathon race, so why not chose this for my first one?
