Story
Thank you for taking time to visit my page.
Life can be complicated for some….Thousands of people in the UK suffer with learning difficulties. They go through life not receiving the help that they desperately need. They often struggle through school, resulting in a poor education. This means they start adult life with few opportunities. Finding work, somewhere to live, creating friendships, taking up hobbies, simple things that we take for granted, many people need support with. An independent life feels out of reach. They feel shut out from society.
I believe that is wrong, things need to change. More support is needed.
So this year, I’m going to do my bit to help make this happen…
The Challenge:
In August 2025, in aid of a charity called HFT, I am going to attempt to climb to Everest base camp. The walk will take a total of 13 days and will be challenging. We’ll be walking approx 12 to 15 miles a day, on difficult terrain with elevations of almost 6000m. I’m going to give it my best shot!
The Charity, HFT
In the UK alone, 1.5 million people have a learning disability. Despite this, social care systems are underfunded meaning less options are available. Today, HFTs mission is to create a future where learning disabled people can live their best lives possible. They help adults find homes, support them running their homes. Help people find jobs, help them achieve life goals, even support many with finding fun hobbies and creating friendships.
With the right support, their lives can be transformed. To read more about the charity, please click this link: https://www.hft.org.uk/about-us/
What will your donation do?
With your donation, you could help give opportunities to many people who struggle daily. You can help them to develop their skills to live an independent, happier life.
A little about Me
Whilst I am fortunate and don't have to face the challenges of many, I do understand how good support can be life changing.
At age 7 I had fallen badly behind at school. I couldn’t concentrate for long and found learning extremely challenging.
I was very lucky. I received great teaching support as I attended a school (More House in Farnham) who support children with all manner of learning difficulties. Within two years, of having the help I needed, I had won an award for the most improved student in my year. This is my personal proof that receiving the right help, can change your world!
This is why I chose this charity, they strive to help thousands of people with varying learning difficulties, and I feel that’s a mission well worth supporting. I hope you do too.
Thank you
