OLLIE'S 1000 MILE CYCLE | Fundraiser for Mesothelioma UK - in memory of my Dad, Tim Stokes

The Asparagus Boys - LEJOG 2023 · 29 August 2023
As many of you know, after my Dad died in October 2021, I've been more focused than ever on raising money for charity through some sort of physical challenge.
Last year, in his memory, I set myself a challenge of cycling 162 miles from my home in Warwickshire to Snowdon in 2 days, and then climbing/running Snowdon on the 3rd day (3hr14mins), I ended up raising over £5170 for The Royal Marsden Cancer Charity, an awesome cause, based at the hospital where Dad received such stellar care.
After falling in love with the open road, I've now set my eyes on bigger and better... In August 2023, myself and 5 friends will be cycling Lands End to John O'Groats, in 10 days, covering 1000 miles on the bike - this one is going to be painful!
My last challenge delivered a very physical distraction from what was, and continues to be, an emotionally challenging and rather painful journey of loss. This distraction continues to serve me well, and I am so excited to be embarking on my next - always with Dad, and his love for cycling, in my mind.
Over the course of his 5 ½ year cancer battle with Mesothelioma, my awesome Dad never stopped fighting, he was a true 'Meso Warrior', raising awareness, and inspiring others facing similar adversity. One of the charities who made this possible, was Mesothelioma UK.
I am raising money, in memory of my wonderful Dad, for a charity close to his heart, and as a healthy challenge to continue to focus on.
