We are a small group of OME apprentices based at UWTSD Swansea.

We cover many different modules during our studies. Including, OME Principles taught by Gareth Collett CBE.

Unfortunately, in September last year, Gareth was diagnosed with an aggressive form of bladder cancer. This meant that for the first few months of the academic year, Gareth was unable to travel to the University and deliver lectures. Thankfully, after January, Gareth made a slow return to teaching, whilst still undergoing his continual treatment.

Gareth is a well-known professional in the OME trade, and he is a strong believer in passing on his knowledge to new starters within the industry. Throughout his career, he has worked tirelessly on large-scale, global safety projects, including working directly for the UN.

In order to raise funds for a cancer charity, of Gareth’s choice, our aim is to complete the Three Peaks Challenge. We will attempt to climb the three highest peaks in the UK within 24hrs. I believe we could raise a considerable amount of money, as a thank you to both Gareth, and the charities that tirelessly support those with cancer.

This fundraiser is due to take place week commencing 23rd September 2024
