One Small Step - Southsea! For The Foundation for Prader Willi Research

Shannon Cohead is raising money for Foundation for Prader-Willi Research UK

One Small Step Walk · 1 August 2026

The aim of Foundation for Prader-Willi Research UK (FPWR UK is to overcome the challenges of Prader-Willi Syndrome (PWS) through advancing research. High-quality research leads to more effective treatments and a better quality of life. FPWR UK was founded in 2010 by parents of children with PWS.

Story

As you all know, my boy Tommy has Prader Willi Syndrome, and the past 2 years we have walked the length of Southsea Beach from Eastney toilets to Clarence Pier to raise money and awareness to Tommy, PWS and FPWR UK and this year will be our third year!

Prader Willi is a rare genetic condition that effects 1 in 22,000 births, it causes insatiable hunger, mobility issues, learning difficulties, development delays and multiple other issues! Tommy is 6 years old, he is unable to walk minus a couple of steps with a walking frame, he is unable to talk, hes has learning and developmental delays, hes had multiple operations and hospital admissions and as much as he is a happy beautiful little man, who is so loved! He really shows us that there is such a need for medical enhancements to help him which are simply just not there!

FPWR UK dedicate their time to fund research projects happening globally to try and bring treatments for those affected with PWS to the UK. And looking at my boy, this is such an important cause!
