My name is Kim and at the age of 30 I was diagnosed with triple positive breast cancer (when I said “new decade, new me” this wasn’t quite what I had in mind).

We learned about this 3 days after Christmas, when I was due to start a new job and 6 weeks out from our wedding day - starting chemo after our wedding. The honeymoon plans were obviously scrapped.

So far I’ve had three procedures and working through 20 rounds of chemotherapy before my (hopefully) final surgery of a double mastectomy. Due to the nature of my cancer, I’m on hormonal treatment which has put me into a medical menopause - the joys!

I work hard to try and share the highs and lows of cancer in early 30s, online and offline. I’m passionate to raise awareness of checking for signs, as well as the importance of genetic testing as doing this saved my life.

Had I not known about my BRCA2 genetic mutation through genetic testing, I wouldn’t have had the MRI which ended up detecting my tumour - having had no symptoms and feeling healthy as I trained for a marathon.

Sadly s*** happens and my attitude towards this journey is to focus on laughing where possible, dressing up in bright colours and work towards positive goals.

This November, I will set out on a challenging, extraordinary and life-changing trek, all in the name of checking chests! Along with Gi Fletcher and some other famous faces, I will embark on a 5 day trek in the Indian Himalayas, in a bid to raise funds towards CoppaFeel's life-saving mission.

They are on a mission to stamp out the late diagnosis of breast cancer by making sure that young people are regularly checking their boobs, pecs and chests and getting to know their bodies in order to have the confidence to see their GP if something just doesn't feel normal.
