Story
Hello! We're excited to share Operation Jackanory with you—a wonderful project brought to life by the DCH Library and Transition to Adult Services Teams. Our aim is to bring the joy of reading to children and young people who might have fewer activities while they're in hospital. To do this, we've planned some fantastic reading resources and are working towards creating a new children and young people’s library at Dorset County Hospital—but we need your help!
We’d love for you to consider making a donation to support the Operation Jackanory library. Thanks to our friends at Winstone’s Independent Bookshops, your contribution will go directly towards buying exciting books for young readers and keeping the library filled with the latest titles.
For those who remember the original "Jackanory," the name carries special meaning, especially as next year marks the National Year of Reading. Sadly, the number of children who never read for fun is on the rise in all age groups, according to the National Literacy Trust. In fact, one in five kids aged 11 to 13 now never choose to read a book voluntarily. Parents are reading to their children less often, which means children aren't seeing reading as a positive and enjoyable activity.
A small group of us are passionate about the power of reading to transform lives, and we’re eager to turn things around. If you feel inspired, any donation you can make would truly mean the world to us and to the young readers we hope to reach. Thank you so much for your support! Thank you, from Charlotte, Kate, Jack and Morag
