Story
October is National Domestic Abuse Awareness Month and I will be walking 62 Miles in October to raise money for Refuge.
Most people don’t realise the true scale of the domestic abuse crisis. Violence against women and girls occurs across every economic, ethnic, age and social group.
- In England and Wales, two women a week are murdered by an abusive partner or ex.
- The police receive a domestic abuse-related call every 30 seconds.
- It is estimated that around 3 women a week die by suicide as a result of domestic abuse.
- 20% of children in the UK have lived with an adult perpetrating domestic abuse.
Oon any given day, Refuge support thousands of women and their children who are trying to escape their abusers.
Just £15 can cover the essentials for a woman or children’s first night in safety, including blankets, pyjamas, food and toiletries to replace what they had to leave behind.
Every £1 you can spare makes a difference. If you know me, you know I’ll stubbornly clock up every one of those miles! Please chip in if you can and help make every step count.
Thank you!
