Story
The Orwellermen Sea Shanty Crew are gearing up for an extraordinary adventure—cycling around 450 miles from their home on the banks of the River Orwell on England’s East Coast to perform at the 2025 Falmouth International Sea Shanty Festival. But this isn't just any ride; it’s a journey filled with song and purpose. Along the way, we’ll be stopping at pubs and cafés across southern England, spreading the joy of sea shanties to the landlocked masses while raising funds for the RNLI.
Sea shanties are traditional working songs sung by sailors, and these songs tell of something of the life of sailors during the 18th and 19th centuries. The sea still holds perils for those sailing today and we would hope to use our ride to raise funds for this vital charity,
Too many people are still drowning. As a charity, the RNLI depends on donations so it can go on saving lives and keeping us and our loved ones safe.
RNLI lifesavers are our lifeline. They’re the lifeboat crews who provide 24-hour search and rescue right around the UK and Ireland. The lifeguards keeping watch on 240 of the busiest beaches in the UK and Channel Islands. And the RNLI safety teams and educators working tirelessly to stop people getting into trouble in the first place.
Thank you.
