Team: Outliers 240 mile ride in under 24 hours for MNDA

240 mile cycle · 26 July 2026

Motor Neurone Disease moves fast. It takes away time, it takes away independence and it has no cure. Every day we support people affected by MND. We fund ground-breaking research. We campaign for better care. We’re here for everyone who needs us. Because with MND, every day matters.

Story

The Outliers are a group of cycling friends based in the Sudbury area of Suffolk. This year, they have taken on a challenge to support a long-term friend facing a daunting battle. In February 2025, she was diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease (MND), which has severely impacted her ability to speak and eat, leading to significant weight loss. Together with her husband, they are fighting against the relentless progression of this disease, and they are immensely grateful for the unwavering support from the Motor Neurone Disease Association (MNDA).

In a show of solidarity , seven of the Outliers (David Payne, Mark Bramhall, Jen and Paul Ward, Karen and Michael Whordley and Ian Simpson - please see Gallery Photo)) will take on an ambitious journey from Hook in Hampshire (please see Gallery Photo), where their friend lives, to Sudbury in Suffolk. The route will take them past iconic landmarks including Windsor Castle, Banbury Cross, the MNDA Head Office in Northampton, and Cambridge, covering over 240 miles. The goal is to complete this ride within 24 hours while allowing for necessary refreshment stops. With an average age of over 62 years among the Outliers, this endeavor is not just a ride; it’s a real challenge.

We invite you to support this cause by contributing generously to the MNDA. Your donations will help provide vital resources for those living with MND—an affliction that affects over 5,000 people across the UK at any given time. Together, we can make a difference! Let’s help MNDA continue their essential work and bring hope to those who need it most.
