Mulanje Massif Hike
On 13-15th September 2025, Owen and Vergine Powell are doing a 3 day hike on the dramatic Mulanje Massif, Malawi, one of the largest inselberg's in the world.
This is to raise funds to continue to support the work of Care for Uganda(www.careforuganda.org registered charity number 1099797) . The health division, Friends of Lowero(FLOW) is run by a small team of working and retired UK based health care professionals who are all volunteers. We work with the Lowero District Health Office who guide us to where need is greatest.
Over the last 15 years we have trained over 300 village health team members, who are volunteers, in basic health care and health promotion. We provide continuing support and refresher training sessions.
We have also provided 11 motorbike and sidecar ambulances and 1 Tuktuk ambulance and continue to monitor and pay for the running costs of the service.
The village health teams and ambulances provide an essential service to local communities in a desperately poor rural area of central Uganda and have helped to reduce maternal and infant mortality.
Every pound donated will be spent in Uganda and none of it on expenses for the UK volunteers.
