I’m raising money for the Fire Fighters Charity by climbing 4,142 steps – the total number of steps in both of the Twin Towers combined.

This challenge is my way of honouring the incredible courage and sacrifice shown by firefighters on 11 September 2001, a day that changed the world forever.

This year marks 25 years since the attacks, when 2,977 people from more than 100 countries lost their lives. On that day, 343 FDNY firefighters made the ultimate sacrifice while rescuing others, representing the greatest loss of life for a fire department in a single incident in history.

The tragedy didn’t end there. Since 2001, the FDNY has lost more than 400 additional members to illnesses linked to the toxic exposure they suffered during the rescue and recovery efforts at Ground Zero.

Even after learning that the towers had been struck by aircraft, hundreds of firefighters continued climbing the stairs towards danger, knowing others needed their help. Their extraordinary bravery, selflessness and dedication saved countless lives.

By taking on this challenge, I hope to honour their memory while raising vital funds for the Fire Fighters Charity, which provides lifelong support to serving firefighters, retired personnel, fire and rescue staff, volunteers, and their families.
