Walk the Fence 2024: Pad's Mendip Way Adventure

As the UK descends into yet ANOTHER mud-slinging contest in the form of a General Election - it's been a hot minute since we had one of those hasn't it - I have made a manifesto pledge of my own. This pledge is to get off my ass and walk 65km to raise money for the humanitarian charity Collective Aid.
It's tough to decide which of the idiotic policies from the floundering and incompetent Tory government is the most embarrassing, but without doubt, the most toxic and inhumane is their ambition to send refugees and asylum seekers to Rwanda.
*Ah yes, sending a few hundred Afghan, Syrian, Eritrean, and Sudanese asylum seekers to Rwanda each year is certainly the cure for the multitude of deep-rooted problems we are facing. Brilliant! #TakingBackControl*
Whilst on one end of the humanitarian spectrum you have Sunak, Patel, Braverman and co festering and plotting, at the other end sits NGOs like Collective Aid. In Calais, and across Europe, they help refugees and people on the move with food, clothing, washing facilities, and take testimonies of the violence these people have suffered as they make their lengthy journey to what they hope is safety and the chance to start a new life.
Why 65km I hear you ask?
Well, 65km is the total length of the Frontex border fences in the city of Calais. This installation is a stark reminder and a physical representation that the UK asylum system and the EU "solution" to dealing with the "migrant crisis" is not one based on compassion for other humans.
I have chosen to walk the Mendip Way - which on their website is described as "the perfect 3 - 5 day walk" and is 80km in length. But to make it that little bit more fun (read: painful and exhausting), I have committed to doing it in just two days. So if you like the idea of me suffering and/or you want to help refugees in Calais, I'd appreciate any donations you can afford.
Much love folks,
Thank you ::)
