Story
One month ago today, October 18th, I was told I have Inflammatory Breast Cancer, and that my treatment plan was to start Chemotherapy as soon as possible, which I have now begun.
Today, November 18th, is the day I braved the shave and will be sending off my hair to The Little Princess Trust.
There is very little you can control when it comes to Cancer, and I have had to accept a lot of changes. One thing that I can take ownership of and try to make into a positive thing is my hair. In the words of Fleabag, ‘Hair is Everything’ and I have no shame in saying how much I genuinely love my hair; it is the one thing that makes me feel confident. So knowing I would have to watch and feel it fall out piece by piece was going to be very traumatic. However, if I can take control and decide that I can instead donate all my hair to The Little Princess Trust, a charity that provides real hair wigs, free of charge, to children and young people who have lost their own hair through cancer treatment or to other conditions such as Alopecia… it’s an absolute no brainier.
The charity is also one of the largest funders of childhood cancer research in the UK. The Little Princess Trust relies solely on the generosity of its wonderful supporters who help the charity give Hair and Hope to so many children and young people with cancer each year.
I am very, very fortunate that I don’t need assistance, money or aid myself, but so many of my family, friends, colleagues and everyone in between want to help somehow. Donating whatever you can to this charity will help. Just instead of me, you’ll be helping a little child, and making their journey a little easier.
£700 is the estimated cost of making a wig for a child going through cancer. I know how tight money is this time of year, but I plan to keep this page going throughout and beyond my treatment to see how if we can reach that magic number.
Thank you in advance to everyone who donates, shares, anything. And when you see me in wigs that are a little wonky, mind ya business ✨💁♀️
