In October 2021, we sadly lost my Nan/Nanny to cancer. Growing up, I spent so much time with my grandparents and was incredibly close to them both. Navigating life after losing my Nan hasn’t been easy — she was truly the centre of our family. Although losing her was, and still is, a massive loss, one thing I’ve learned through grief is the importance of gratitude.

During her final months, Cynthia Spencer Hospice gave my Nan amazing care and compassion. For those that don’t know Cynthia Spencer Hospice provides exceptional specialist palliative care to patients with life limiting illnesses - supporting them til the end with kindness and compassion.

I’ve been wanting to give back to the people who supported my Nan and our family during that time, to show my appreciation for the incredible work they do. For I can only imagine how emotionally challenging their roles must be.

In order to honour my Nan and give back, I originally planned to do a skydive to raise money for Cynthia Spencer Hospice. But earlier this year, my Grandad sadly passed away too. One thing he always enjoyed was seeing the family come together for fundraisers carried out by other family members and he also had his own experience with CSH — so, in honour of them both, I’ve decided to expand my plans.

I’ll be doing three challenges to raise money for Cynthia Spencer Hospice:

- A skydive

- Running a half marathon

- The tough mudder
