Story
It's LoungeAid time again! This year Palacio is raising money for Younge Lives vs Cancer, in honour of our FOH Supervisor Meg's identical twin sister, Rosie.
We’ll be hiking 25 miles from St Ives to Falmouth with a team of Loungers!
Megan and Rosie have been inseparable since they were babies, being identical twins they affectionally call each other womb-mates and spent their childhoods causing trouble together. Not only is Rosie Megan's twin sister, but she's also her best friend.
Rosie lives her life to help others, so she spends her life giving children enriching experiences, whether that's screaming songs with them whilst hiking through forests, throwing them of towers (attached to a rope, of course!) or teaching them how to rock climb - she aims to make someone's day every single day.
In April of 2023, Rosie worked as an adventure activity instructor for PGL. She was playing football with her group when she kicked the ball and her femur snapped. She was rushed into the hospital, and upon further examination, they found it was a rare form of Bone Cancer called Osteosarcoma.
Unfortunately, upon further examination, it was discovered that the cancer had already spread to the lungs and was, therefore, terminal and incurable. This is devastating when you're only 21, with your whole life ahead of you only to be cut short.
She started chemotherapy immediately and then started the long battle of recovery, which included a total knee, femur and hip replacement by using limb-saving surgery so she could keep her leg and live life to the fullest.
Over the past year, it's been a tough battle to get through the challenges of chemotherapy, but Young Lives v Cancer have been a vital lifeline to Meg and her family to get them through the challenges of facing terminal cancer at such a young age.
When a child is diagnosed with cancer life becomes full of fear, for them and their family. Fear of treatment, but also of families being torn apart, overwhelming money worries, of having nowhere to turn, no one to talk to.
At Young Lives vs Cancer, we help families find the strength to face whatever cancer throws at them. But every day 12 more children and young people hear the devastating news they have cancer. We’ll face it all together – but we can’t do it without you.
