Help Pamela Run for Hope & Healing

Hello, my name is Pamela. I am a single mother of two, and in June 2021 my life changed forever when I was diagnosed with Grade 3 HER 2+ breast cancer.

The road to recovery wasn’t easy. I felt isolated, alone, and like no one truly understood the silent battle I was fighting. While I am deeply grateful to the NHS, I also became aware of the disparities in care that many ethnic minority patients, like myself, face. It left me searching for a space where my voice could be heard, and my experiences understood.

Sadly, these disparities are not just personal they are reflected in national statistics.
In the UK, Black women are up to twice as likely to be diagnosed with late-stage cancer compared to White women. For breast cancer specifically, the 5-year survival rate for Black women is far less as well . Black women are also less likely to attend breast screening, meaning cancers are often found later, when treatment is more complex. And in womb (endometrial) cancer, Black women are twice as likely to die despite having lower overall rates of diagnosis.
These numbers are heartbreaking and they highlight why awareness, early detection, and culturally sensitive support are so vital.

That’s when I found Black Women Rising, an award-winning programme from UK registered charity The Leanne Pero Foundation. They support women of colour through every step of their cancer diagnosis and work tirelessly to educate, raise awareness, and influence policy that aims to provide equitable and accessible cancer care for women of colour in the UK.

For me, Black Women Rising has been more than just a group it has been a lifeline. It is a sisterhood, a community of women who share not just stories of survival, but strength, validation, and hope. For the first time in a long while, I felt truly seen.

Now, I want to give back.

I am stepping out of my comfort zone and taking on the incredible challenge of running the London Marathon on 27 April 2026 to raise money for this vital charity so that others like me can continue to find the support, care, and community they desperately need during one of the hardest battles of their lives.

This cause is deeply personal to me, and I hope you will join me on this journey. Every donation, no matter how big or small, will make a difference in supporting this charity and helping others feel less alone in their fight.

✨ Please donate and share this page to help me reach my goal. Together, we can give hope, healing, and community to those who need it most.

With love and gratitude,
Pamela 💖
