RNLI volunteer lifeboat crews provide a 24-hour search and rescue service all around the UK and Ireland, while lifeguards keep a careful watch on the UK’s busiest beaches. RNLI lifesaving and drowning prevention depend on supporter fundraising and the generous donations that you and others give.

Story

***UPDATE*** Halfway in and we recieved word that a family member has passed away, so we are headed home. I will complete the mileage at home. Thank you to those that have donated. It really does help the RNLI to continue to save lives.

Too many people are still drowning. More than ever we need the RNLI’s help. As a charity, the RNLI depends on our donations so it can go on saving lives and keeping us and our loved ones safe. These people are volunteers, ordinary people doing an extraordinary thing to keep people safe at sea and on rivers such as the Thames.

To raise money for them I am going to walk the whole of Hadrian's wall, from Bowness on Solway in Cumbria to Wallsend in Newcastle - camping all the way and carrying all of my gear with me. The last time I did a hike of any real length was when I did my Duke of Edinburgh award... 30 years ago!

The cost of the crew kit ranges from £20 for a balaclava to £1500 for a Helly Hansen layered clothing and boots for the crew that go out in the all weather lifeboats.

I know times are hard but whatever you can spare can really make difference.

Thank you.
