Anyone can get Parkinson’s. It gets worse over time and there’s no cure. Yet. Funding research into the most promising treatments, we’re getting closer to a cure. Until then, we're improving life for people with Parkinson’s, and the people in their lives. Together we'll find a cure.

Story

My name is David Treasure and I was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease 11 years ago.

As I approach my 90th birthday, I continue to face the daily challenges of a well-progressed condition. Some days can be extremely difficult, but with medication and the help, advice and support of medical professionals and those closest to me, I continue to manage as positively as I can.

I feel incredibly grateful to have reached this age. For some time, I have been thinking about setting myself a physical and mental challenge to mark my 90th year. I did briefly consider attempting a skydive, but my Parkinson’s consultant very wisely advised against it!

After much thought, I came up with a plan that would truly challenge me, raise money for the wonderful Parkinson’s UK charity, and allow me to stay close enough to home to support my 94-year-old wife of 68 years, who has significant health challenges of her own.

Living with Parkinson’s often means focusing on the things that have become difficult, or sometimes impossible. I wanted to set myself a goal that focuses on what is still possible and gives me something positive to strive towards.

Therefore, to celebrate my 90th birthday in August 2026, I am planning to walk 90 miles.

I use a walking aid and live in a cul-de-sac, which has been carefully measured out. To reach my goal, I will need to complete just under 900 laps. Some days I may manage several laps, some days only one, and some days I may need to pause my challenge altogether. However, I am determined to keep going and complete my 90-mile journey.

I am taking on this challenge to raise money for Parkinson’s UK. The charity provides invaluable support for people living with Parkinson’s and funds vital research to improve treatments and work towards finding a cure for this debilitating condition.

If you are able to support me, any donation, no matter how small, will make a real difference. Your generosity will help Parkinson’s UK continue their essential work and give hope to thousands of people and families affected by Parkinson’s.

Thank you very much for taking the time to read my story.
