The Parachute Regiment XI Vs The Barmy Army XI Charity Cricket Match
On the 27th September, The Parachute Regiment XI play The Barmy Army XI at Oxshott Village Sports Club. The match will start with two attempts at Guinness World Records: Captain William Giddings will run into bowl for 51km before delivering the first ball, and Captains Oskar Kolk and Tom Shaw will run a marathon, fully padded up, before arriving at the crease to open the batting. Following these record-breaking attempts, the Paras' XI will take on The Barmy Army's finest, including England legends, in a T20 match. While the marathons are being run, there will be a 6-a-side tournament open to all, also at Oxshott Village Sports Club.
The day is in support of three charities which support the welfare of The Parachute Regiment and Airborne Forces' past and present: Support Our Paras, The Churchill Lines Foundation and The Alex Fairey Memorial Fund. All three charities provide millions of pounds' worth of funding to serving soldiers and veterans, supporting those who sustained injuries on operations, fell on hard times after leaving, or suffer from health problems in later life. All three charities also support the day-to-day welfare of serving paratroopers by providing pastoral care to service families.
All your donations in support of the world record attempts and these charities are massively appreciated. Spectators are encouraged throughout the day, with food and drink available at the Oxshott clubhouse. Please do come and join us!
