On April 27th this year, Máire, Hamish and I will be running the Madrid marathon to raise money for a mental health charity, for our friend and housemate Dani. In December, we tragically lost Dani under circumstances no one should ever have to deal with or face, and we want to raise awareness for people with mental health struggles, to make it easier for them to find the help that they need. Dani was more than a housemate, she was a friend who made Madrid a home for all of us, and continuing without her has been and will continue to be difficult. Dani was a unique character, she loved to party and socialise, whilst studying a Masters degree at university. She helped us to practise Spanish, and taught us about her Chilean and Peruvian culture, before one day we lost her. We hope that the funds we raise will prevent other people from struggling in the way that Dani did, as well as encouraging more people to find help.

We're lucky enough to be training in a large group, with friends doing other events such as the Barcelona marathon, and the Madrid half marathon leading up to ours. My sister Alice, and her boyfriend Coel will be flying from England, as well as my friend Picco to run on the day with us too.
