Story

"Paris, Rebecca and Olivia are teaming up to raise money for Safenet Domestic Abuse Services!

Together, we’ll be taking part in this year's 12K Total Warrior Challenge in Leeds on Sunday the 28th June.

Each of us will be tackle 25 obstacles including the 'Human BBQ' , 'Cement Mixer' and the 'The Shocker'.

Paris and Rebecca both work for Safenet and we know just how much this money raised will make a difference to the survivors that Safenet support.

Safenet offer inclusive, non-judgemental and respectful services to women, children and men and we are part of DASSL (Domestic Abuse Support Service Lancashire).

Domestic abuse affects many people regardless of age, gender, financial status, location, religion or sexuality. It’s estimated that 1 in 5 adults experience domestic abuse in their lifetime, equating to 1 in 4 women and 1 in 6-7 men… and this is only what’s reported.

Domestic abuse comes in many forms such as physical, sexual, emotional, financial, stalking and harassment, controlling and coercive behaviour and in some cases can also lead to homicide. Because of this, it’s so important that services like Safenet exist so they can provide a safe place to stay if needed, along with support, guidance and practical help to create a safer, happier and healthier future for anyone affected by domestic abuse.

With the money raised we want to use this to provide survivors with essential safety items such as:

· Personal attack alarms – to improve confidence when out in the community

· Doorstops – to put behind doors to prevent/slow down access from outside by perpetrators. This will give victims crucial time to be able to contact others in emergency situations eg Police

· Window shock alarms – to alert victims when windows are opened or broken

· Door alarms -to alert victims when a door is opened

· Letterbox lock – an extra security measure
